Best Kitchens of 2009

Since I've been designing a custom kitchen for one of my clients, I have kitchens on my brain. I want to reflect on some of the best kitchens of 2009--can you think of a better way to welcome in the new year?

House Beautiful's 2009 Kitchen of the Year

Nothing says timeless like a white kitchen. Designer Robert Stilin emphasizes the important of a casual dining/cooking space through the large island. The countertops look a lot like one of my favorite horizontal surface materials--soapstone--but they're quartz! The countertops shown are Caesarstone quartz. They're less expensive than most soapstone and one of the most care-free countertops on the market. Beautiful. I like the contrast of charcoals and white to add interest without overdoing it.

A double drawer utensil insert. Genius! There are thousands and thousands of drawer inserts to accommodate your personal needs.

Stilin knows the importance of the kitchen as not only a place to cook and eat but as an additional living space. Every up-to-date kitchen has a comfortable living area as a part of their kitchen. I like the color added by this subtle lavender upholstered chair.

A walk-in pantry is a pretty and inexpensive way to store everything from plates to pasta.

Another smart space saving drawer insert to store your spices.

Southern Living's 2009 Kitchen of the Year

This kitchen is a bit more modern but equally as beautiful! I love the dark stain on the cabinets and the contrasting lighter oak floors. The sleekness and function make this kitchen another timeless kitchen.

I like to use drawer pullout inside cabinets. This is a great alternative to more expensive drawers without compromising organization.

What is your favorite kitchen of 2009? I'd love to hear from you!
